A Lovely, Simple Wine Tasting Trip: Temecula

| |

One of my favorite simple weekend getaways is going to Temecula (between LA and SD):

(click on the above map for a better view)

Having been there more times than I can count, I can definitely share information in case you're looking for a getaway, or just looking to learn more about wine through experience.

There are two roads to wine taste on in Temecula- Rancho California Road and De Portola Road. Here are my favorite wineries from each...

1. Rancho California (south to north) - Hart, Baily, Stuart Cellars, Falkner, Vindemia, Doffo(appntment required, call ahead at 714.715.6610)

2. De Portola (south to north)- Keyways, Leonesse, Robert Renzoni, Masia de Yabar (a new winery, not listed on the map, on De Portola and Camino Arroyo Seco)

3. There are a couple of wineries in between the roads that are a MUST see!
Briar Rose(appntment required, call ahead at 951.308.1098)
Bella Vista

4. And some things sweet....
Maurice Carrie (specializes in sweet and sparkling wines, and sells HUGE loaves of freshly baked bread with brie cheese inside)
Wilson Creek (special port tasting in an edible chocolate shot glass)

Where to eat:

1. Baily's Restaurant in OLD TOWN TEMECULA (Fine Dining)
Have the Braised Ribs with a glass of their Merlot.... WOW!

2. Bangkok Chef was a random find, but it was amazing! I eat Thai food often and can recognize authentic Thai cuisine easily. Look to see if they have any fish off the menu... really fresh - feeds two - delicious!

3. Francesca's (Italian)
31165 Temecula Pkwy - we had the eggplant parmesana and farfalle with salmon (YUM) - and we heard the filet mignot and beef medallions are wonderful as well

4. Greek Place (authentic and awesome!)
27326 Jefferson Avenue, Temecula, CA - wonderful authentic Greek food and setting - *belly dancing every friday and saturday night!

5. Pinnacle (@ Falkner Winery) - Delicious idea for lunch along the wine trail! Specialties: Sunday BBQ and Lobster Mac N' Cheese. Outdoor seating available. Beautiful view.
